CEO Hao-Chieh Lin

With the coming of the era of the globalized knowledge economy, “knowledge” has become the most critical force for creating a personal future, corporate wealth, and national economies in the 21st century. Faced with the new challenges brought by the knowledge economy, National Sun Yat-Sen University’s (NSYSU’s) EMBA and APEMBA (Asia-Pacific EMBA) programs have established a tradition of excellence as the best in southern Taiwan and among the top three nationally. They have moved forward continuously, providing the finest core management courses to improve the management capabilities of top executives. In November 2017, Cheers Magazine ranked NSYSU’s EMBA program third among EMBA programs at 96 universities throughout Taiwan in its “Survey of the Willingness to Attend EMBA Programs Among Executives at 3000 Large Enterprises.” In 2016, Global Views Monthly also ranked NSYSU third in the country in its survey of the EMBA programs CEOs throughout Taiwan would most want to attend and enterprises most love. NSYSU’s EMBA program’s international performance is even more dazzling. In 2015, the Financial Times ranked NSYSU’s EMBA program 65th in its ranking of the top 100 master’s programs for business management in the world. It was the only EMBA program in Taiwan to make the rankings in 2016.

With regard to management training for students’ higher-order capabilities, NSYSU emphasizes the training of leadership and communication capabilities, problem-solving and crisis management capabilities, policy management capabilities, and entrepreneurship and innovation management capabilities. With regard to cultivating students’ perspective, NSYSU’s EMBA program upholds the viewpoint of “establishing a foothold in Taiwan, walk into business; setting deep roots in the Asia-Pacific region and Greater China, think globally.” Therefore, in addition to using Harvard cases, NSYSU’s EMBA course design also includes courses on “business reality.” Actual business cases from EMBA classmates are analyzed and investigated in depth to bring students closer to real Taiwanese business environments.

In addition, to set deep roots in the Asia-Pacific region and Greater China, NSYSU’s EMBA program has established courses on cross-strait and Asia-Pacific business environment analysis. It also conducts the ASEAN Regional Forum each year to understand deeply the political and economic environments of ASEAN countries with large numbers of Taiwanese businesspeople, such as Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia, from the perspectives of industry, government, and academia. In 2012, NSYSU’s EMBA program collaborated with Tongji University in mainland China to establish the Cross-Strait Executive Master of Business Administration (CSEMBA). Mobile teaching and business visits in Kaohsiung, Taipei, Hong Kong (The Chinese University of Hong Kong), and Shanghai (Tongji University) grant EMBA classmates from each region broader perspectives and closer exchange. Additionally, NSYSU and its two sister schools in the mainland Shanhai Forum, Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou and Xiamen University, take turns hosting a forum each year for close exchange.

Under the educational philosophy of diversification, in addition to emphasizing corporate social responsibility and ethics, NSYSU’s EMBA program also integrates exceptional teachers from NSYSU’s colleges of science and engineering, social sciences, marine sciences, literature, art, and music to lecture on major new technological and life knowledge in each field, providing a comprehensive character education for NSYSU’s EMBA students.

Today, NSYSU’s EMBA program has cultivated more than 2000 of the business elite. Looking to the future, we will approach changes in the global situation and competitive and cooperative trends among countries to provide a sound educational learning environment, allowing NSYSU’s EMBA program to step forward toward improvement, diversification, and internationalization.
